GAINESVILLE, Ga. (March 31, 2021) – To further support the coronavirus vaccination effort in Gainesville-Hall County, the City of Gainesville will continue offering discounted WeGo rides ($1 from $3) through June for those traveling to get the vaccine at applicable clinics in or near Gainesville city limits.

WeGo, the City’s newest vanpool service, operates from 6 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Friday and uses a smartphone app – along with a fleet of 10-12 passenger vans – to transport you around town. The service launched in December 2020 and is available to everyone, including persons with disabilities. Download the WeGo Powered by Via app today at the online Google or Apple stores.

“Transit agencies around the nation are finding ways to help the public combat the COVID-19 virus. In addition to wearing masks, frequently washing our hands and social distancing, we’ve taken the extra step of discounting fares because we want to provide every opportunity for our family, friends and neighbors to access this life-saving vaccine and do our part to end the pandemic,” said Gainesville-Hall County Community Service Center Director Phillippa Lewis Moss. “I am always reminded that as a public transit provider, we must remain agile and quickly respond to pressing community matters. The COVID-19 pandemic is a perfect example where we have had to turn on our heels and adjust our operations to best serve our community.”

The service will prove especially convenient when the Hall County Board of Commissioners, in coordination with staff at the University of North Georgia (UNG) and District 2 Public Health, opens a new mass COVID-19 vaccination site to increase the number of vaccination opportunities available in Gainesville-Hall County. The mass vaccination site opens Tuesday, April 6, at the Hugh Mills Physical Education Center on UNG’s Gainesville campus, and will eventually replace the Hall County Health Department’s existing clinic at Chicopee Woods Agricultural Center in Gainesville.

The health department will continue administering vaccines (second doses only) at Chicopee Woods through Monday, April 12. Residents who received their first dose of vaccine March 23 and after will receive their second dose at UNG – Gainesville.

The mass COVID-19 vaccination site at UNG – Gainesville, the schedule for which is available below, will not be open to walk-ins – only to those with appointments. Vaccinations will not be given without an appointment.
